Silverton, Colorado: Town OHV rules get final approval

The Silverton town board Monday gave final approval to an ordinance governing the use of off-highway vehicles in the town.

The ordinance, to take affect on June 14, was designed to make town rules consistent with state law and to conform with similar regulations throughout the state.

The town also approved a set of fines to be imposed for violations:

  • No registration number displayed – $25 fine
  • Unable to produce registration for inspection upon demand by a peace officer – $50 fine.
  • Operating an off-highway vehicle on public streets, roads or highways – $50 fine.
  • Off-highway vehicle without required equipment – $50 fine.
  • Operator of an off highway vehicle involved in an accident resulting in property damage of $1,500 or more, injuries resulting in hospitalization or death, or some person acting for the operator, failed to notify authorities of accident — $75 fine.
